OpenStack Ocata: Containers all the Way Down

Episode Summary

Last week, the OpenStack community released OpenStack Ocata, the 15th version of this open source software for building cloud services. This release is of particular interest to us in how much it fully embraces containers. You might remember a year ago, we heard a lot of hyperbole of how containers and container orchestration engines would extinguish the need for OpenStack. But now we are finding that are many useful ways of pairing OpenStack with containers. And this release not only offers greater support for many containerization frameworks, but also uses containers themselves to ease the process of installing and updating OpenStack. We grabbed a few minutes with Jonathan Bryce, executive director of the OpenStack Foundation to learn more about Ocata and all the synergies that are coming with container usage.
